Generally, Japanese study English for 6 years during students.
If the major of university is English, we study it for 10 years.
But most of Japanese can’t use English.
Why ?
This article includes a lot of my opinion which Japanese can’t use English.
First: We don’t need to use English in everyday.
If you live in Japan, you can find that you don’t use English in everyday.
Japanese usually use Japanese language. There is few opportunity to use English.
Because people who live in Japan is almost Japanese. Foreigner is only 2 % in 2020.
So we haven’t had habit of using English in everyday life.
Second: We haven’t needed to study English.
Japan is developed country. We don’t need to go abroad for job.
There are a lot of business in Japan and domestic economy is riped.
So without going abroad, we can live for a lifetime without English.
Third: Miseducation of English at school.
A lot of English teacher in Japan can’t use English. They have a lot of English knowledge but not in practice.
I mean they don’t assume that we use English in practice.
We studied English Word, Grammar and Pronunciation at school. But those aren’t connected the skill of using English.
In my school, we memorized those knowledge but there are no class to use those skills.
Today, I mentioned why Japanese can’t use English well.
Not only above reasons, I think there are a number of factor why Japanese can’t speak English well.
But the world is getting more globalization.
Japanese needs to study English more seriously.
And programmer get a lot of chances if they can speak English.
