The discontinuation of Sora 2 highlights not only how quickly generative AI improves, but also how quickly services are replaced. OpenAI says the Sora web and app experiences will end on April 26, 2026, and the API will shut down on September 24, 2026. Since Sora 2 was introduced in late September 2025, the short lifecycle itself says a great deal about the pace of this industry.

The more useful generative AI becomes, the less we can assume it will stay unchanged. That is why exports, backups, alternatives, and flexible workflows matter. In that sense, April became a good moment to rethink how we rely on AI tools.
